Your years at MIT provided you with life-changing educational and personal experiences. Whether through your living group, a UROP project, playing a sport, exploring career interests – MIT has played a key role in helping you discover yourself and move you along your post-MIT path. Explore your Interests and Enrich your Life There are more than 11,000 MIT alumni in the Bay Area -- not surprising given the geography’s concentration of pure science, engineering, technology and business verticals. The MITCNC is active in catering to those interests by organizing events addressing social to professional interests via various forums. We aim to facilitate opportunities for you to create relationships, reconnect with old friends and further explore your interests by leveraging your MIT connection. Here are brief descriptions of our recurring series and programs: -- The new Energy & Clean Tech Series is a combination of the former Clean Technology Series, which has been an active part of the MIT Club of Northern California since 2004. It is a continuation of our highly successful panel discussions, but with the addition of MITEI on the Road, featuring visiting MIT faculty who are conducting research into Energy and Clean Tech areas. -- The Life Sciences Forum provides a series of lectures and activities designed to showcase the latest innovations in areas such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and diagnositics. -- The Entrepreneurship Series provides a series of programs, services and resources designed to assist MIT alumni/ae in pursuing their entrepreneurial interests. The current program is organized by industry vertical, with lecture series in i) Life Sciences, ii) Telecommunications, Software, iii) Renewable Energy & Clean Technology, iv) Semiconductors and v) C3 (Convergence, Community & Commerce). The club also runs a horizontal Growing Companies lecture series dedicated to helping entrepreneurs -- The Career Development Program is designed to i) empower MIT alumni/ae to manage their careers and plan for their professional futures, ii) help each participating alumnus/a to articulate goals and a desired career roadmap and iii) provide guidance on how to recognize and seize opportunities that can move them toward these goals. This is done via "Model of success" presentations and various instructional workshops and presentations. -- The Social Events Series involves everything from athletic outings to cocktail mixers with allied alumni organizations. We are particularly desirous of increasing our family-oriented offerings and organizing events in traditionally underserved parts of Northern California. If you would like to see another area of focus or have an idea for an event, please let us know by contacting Roshni Cooper (contact info listed below). We thrive and depend on your input. Since 1983, the MITCNC has provided scholarships for partial tuition support for undergraduates from Northern California. This fund, which currently assists six students, is intended to make it easier for students from Northern California to attend the Institute. This year marks the100th anniversary of the MITCNC. In conjunction with the MITAA, we will be hosting a special set of Speaker Series in its honor. Help us to commemorate a century of MIT’s contributions and legacy in the Bay Area! Get Involved The MITCNC provides several hundred practical leadership and service opportunities through its clubs, conferences and publications. Our dues fund the common infrastructure for all MITCNC interest groups and meetings. They also subsidize every event, making it possible for the largest number of students to participate.
