Last updated March 7, 2010 The MIT Club of Northern California is encouraging its members (who are mainly in the Bay Area) to volunteer as judges for their nearest local science fair. However, we have organized these pages to be useful for other potential science fair volunteers in California. See also our information on what is expected and specific judging guidelines. North of I-80County science fairs are held in Humboldt, Trinity, Siskiyou, Lassen/Modoc, Plumas, Mendocino, Lake, Glenn, Butte, Nevada, Placer and Calaveras counties. (Some students in these counties are also eligible for the Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair). The California State Science Fair maintains a complete list of California science fairs (and a list of the fairs sorted by county). For those counties without a fair, the CSSF will also provide materials for those seeking to start a new fair.

Other Central Valley FairsIn the Central Valley, science fairs are also run by the county education department in San Joaquin County (Stockton), Stanislaus County (Modesto), Tuolomne County (Sonora), Tulare County (Visalia) and Kern County (Bakersfield). (San Joaquin County students are also eligible for the Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair). Central CoastOn the Central Coast, two county fairs have their own websites: CSSF also provides contact information for the San Benito County Science Fair. Southern CaliforniaFive fairs serve the counties south of the Tehachapi Mountains (as well as the southern part of the Eastern Sierra).
