The new Energy & Clean Tech Series is a combination of the former Clean Technology Series, which has been an active part of the MIT Club of Northern California since 2004. It will be a continuation of our highly successful panel discussions, but with the addition of MITEI on the Road, featuring visiting MIT faculty who are conducting research into Energy and Clean Tech areas.
Our mission is to actively inform and engage MIT alumni and their associates in Northern California in a broad area of highly important topics relating to the replacement of fossil fuels for energy generation and transportation and other aspects of protecting the environment and sustaining our critical natural resources.
Our program is open to all with an interest in climate change, renewable energy and clean technology; however, we will retain our entrepreneurial orientation by aiming our programs toward those who are seeking to start and build companies in this field, by encouraging venture capitalists to attend our events and to feature as many start-up companies as practical in order to promote valuable networking opportunities for our attendees.
Primary Topics We will feature the topics of greatest interest (based on an alumni survey), which will fall into the following categories: 1) overall understanding of the causes and impact of climate change, 2) solar technology and policy, 3) storage technology for grid-level and distributed renewable energy sources and 4) electric vehicles. Other topics that may be featured are energy efficiency and sustainability.
MITEI* on the Road This new program features visiting MIT professors who are experts in their fields. They will describe some of the most innovative and promising energy research that is being conducted at MIT today, much of which may be commercializable within a few years. *MITEI stands for “MIT Energy initiative”, which now encompasses 25% of the MIT faculty.
Panel Discussions & Debates We will continue to feature high profile, experienced and knowledgeable participants in our panel discussions in the same topical areas as MITEI on the Road, so as to provide both a research and a commercial perspective. These discussions are intended to be informative and thought-provoking and should provide many attendees with important new contacts in their areas of interest.
